Wriggle say goodbye

Following 12 years of making magical interactive performances and projects for and with young audiences and families in theatres, schools, libraries and community spaces throughout the UK, Wriggle Dance Theatre has decided to close.

Over the last decade, Directors Kath Kimber-McTiffen and Lucy Knight have developed a trademark approach, encouraging audiences to share the performance space and harnessing the potential of digital technology to create unique, inspirational and memorable experiences.

Wriggle has created and delivered:

  • 3 dance theatre shows, which toured nationally to small and mid-scale theatre spaces

  • 4 dance theatre shows for non-theatre spaces, touring regionally and nationally to libraries, schools and festivals

  • 2 dance theatre shows for older adults, which toured to care homes, sheltered housing, doorsteps, hospitals and community venues

  • Over 40 participatory and documentary videos with children, families and older adults

  • An early years symposium and a range of resources to support the sector

  • More than 2000 creative workshops and projects in schools, childrens centres, libraries, theatres and at festivals across the UK.

Most recently, Lucy and Kath developed an innovative and dynamic touring model in response to the challenges posed by the pandemic: creating three versions of ambitious production Squidge - interchangeable according to setting, restrictions and audience needs - live performances, interactive collective film experiences in venues and a version to be streamed to homes and schools.

Wriggle are grateful for the strong partnerships that have made this work possible and to all of those that believed in us and helped us to develop our practice: especially our Board of Trustees; Arts Council England; the trusts, foundations, local councils and venues who have supported us; the performers, practitioners, participants,  audiences and artists we have had the pleasure to create with over the years.

Kath and Lucy will continue to make work independently, in their trademark style, building on the wonderful legacy of Wriggle; and we look forward to working with existing partners and new ones as we step into this new chapter.

We have been honoured to wriggle with so many wonderful people, to bring dance into the lives of those who may not have found it otherwise and to experience the joy this work can have for us all.

Thank you all and we hope to see you again some time soon.
